Hiya. First thing I would try is to go to:

System->Preferences->Session Options

and see if the "Automatically save changes to session checkbox" is
checked. If it is not, check it and then proceed to cancel all the
superfluous Nautilus screens and get your desktop the way you like it.
Then log out and log back in. You should now be spared all the crap.
