You said you can use wvdial for connecting to net. See inside the
wvdial.conf file. There you will find where is the point for your mobile.
somthinh like /dev/ttCM0....  or like that. Then install the Gnome -PPP from
your respiratory. Its available in Hardy(Ubuntu 8.04). From the setting
inside Gnome-PPP chose the exact device which was written inside wvdial.conf
file. Dont bother if the Find Device could not find it. Next check on the
"Stupid mode" you'll find it somewhere in the pages of Gnome-PPP.

About Compiz it depends on your video card Open GL support. Can you play
Glest in fullscreen mode with compiz on. Specify your video card. Othewrwise
while running MATLAB swithc to Metacity. You can also try emereld window
manager.Let me know what happen.
