Hi Lyneham,

Thank you for your email.

Welcome to the Community. Please checkout and join the IRC #ubuntu-au
and #ubuntu-au-chatchannel (Applications -> Internet -> XChat or
Pidgin). You'll be able to get immediate answers to your questions :-)

This will also work from the 'Live CD', if you have any pre-install questions.

Have a look at 'planner' software. Any advice on how to make this
Project Management Softwasre even more useful would be very welcome,

- The 'pidgin' software supports a wide range of Instant Messaging
protocols, so you can continue to use MSN,ICQ,Jabber etc. accounts.

- There is an OpenVPN client for connecting to netweork remotely.

- 'ssh' (secure shell) and 'scp' are the workhorses for remotely
connecting and copying files securely across the intenet.

- Have a think about generating yourself a GPG key so you can securely
send/receive emails and participate in the web-of-trust. (It's been a
while since I did this, so I'm unsure of the best way to do this for a
newcomer.)
