udgrade problems gutsy

Sorry for an duplication
I am unable to use my original operating system I found an old hard
drive and have loaded feisty on it so I can access the internet and
email but I have no rercords of previous discussion.
The problem is . I tried to get the graphics working by following here

But now everything on my desktop is so big I can not access the icons
etc eg There are about 5 icons visable and very few toolbar items.
can this be fixed?
 I can visit the drive through the current drive.
