Edit > Preferences > Mail Preferences > Play sound file when new mail
arrives.

Then choose your "You've Got Mail" sound, which will play whenever new
messages come in. Or you could have any other sort of sound you please
(I personally just keep it on the "Beep when new mail arrives" setting
so Compiz shivers my windows as well when my mail comes in).
