negative scanner

Hello everybody,

A friend of mine is wanting to get a scanner that can scan negatives, we  
were looking at a Canon LIDE600F, which apparently has 'good' support with  
SANE. However I was wondering if anyone has used this and knows if it will  
do the job.
Or can someone recommend a better scanner?

I suppose I'll have to compile a new kernel, to get around the USB_SUSPEND  
bug that is plaguing alot of Ubuntu scanner users too.
