Thank you all for your replies.

It was interesting and disappointing to read that this 'bug' had been
reported to exist for a number of locations long ago and has still not been
fixed.  Following the trail in the URL provided by Paul, I noted that one
third of the listed locations in the weather applet are estimated to be not
functioning - Williamtown was just one of these.

I did have to laugh at Mark's proposed fix - change the IDN to 10060.  Yes,
it works and does in fact display the forecast for the whole of NSW while
keeping the Sydney temperature on show in the top panel.  Very innovative.
Thank you for that pointer.

Currently I have a bookmarked link (via Firefox) to the Hunter weather
forecast section of the total NSW forecast.

I will persevere with this issue and will let you know if I can find a
solution.
