Some observatins of the Dell deal.

Within the week prior to the announcement (per what I'd read on ZDNet or
somewhere...), Mark Shuttleworth implied that it was a "possibly" down
the road (or similar).
I can't seem to find the article now, but the point is, corporate deals
that are rumored (as this one was) in advance are always "denied" by the
parties involved.
I don't see what difference it makes. :-) The end result is the same. The
deal was done. And obviously Mark Shuttleworth didn't just suddenly hop
on a plane the night before before his video interview in Austin on May
1 (or did he? lol).
In other words, this was known in advance (not that it matters - I just
find it interesting - the secrecy and all).
I hope that Dell offers Ubuntu on PCs that people actually want to buy.
Their current offerings of PCs with no OS (for those who intend to
install Linux themselves) are rather lame when compared to their full
product line.
I'd rather buy a very good box with Windows (if I had to - but I'd
actually want to anyway..but that's another story) and just dual-boot.
In any event, I'm thrilled that Dell made this move and hope it's not
just a passing thing.
Now, if I could only forgive Dell for firing scads of it's U.S.-based
tech support people a number of years ago (and replacing them with cheap
outsourced overseas help).
But that's another story.
