Maybe there's a difference between what's preinstalled (my laptop came
with Vista Ultimate) and what one installs manually. There's a ton of
extra crap there, and the hard drive constantly spins in Vista, slowing
everything down. I haven't timed the speed of the boot in Vista, but I
can tell you that I need to wait quite a while before I have a usable
desktop. I get app windows saying "not responding" frequently. And this
is on a very new T61P with 2GB of RAM on a 2.2Ghz Dual Core with a
ultra-modern nvidia chipset.
