This was actually considered in the User-Backups discussion in Sydney, in
what eventually got turned into Sivang's backup tool.

The LVM snapshots are a very nice idea, allowing you to upgrade the OS and
even roll-back to a previous version.  There were interesting issues to do
with determining how much space to reserver to the snapshots.
