I can pretty reliably crash several WinXP SP2 systems by pluging in a
couple of USB cameras if I don't install the drivers *and*[1] the
software that came with those camera's before...
OTOH, those cameras simply work out-of-the-box on Ubuntu. :-)
So, hardware support on Windows isn't always better than on linux, not
even for consumer products. (Of course I also can tell stories about
hardware that doesn't work on linux, but at least it doesn't "BSOD" when
I plug in a standard USB storage device.)
[1] Yes, installing only the drivers doesn't help, it really needs a
50(!) MiB "download program" before it doesn't BSOD.
