Linux update becomes terminal pain

discusses the recent issue with xserver-xorg-core (I got bit by it too :)

I was just thinking; if Ubuntu fails like this for an average user
that would be extremely scary.  Perhaps some sort of helpful message
could be displayed...

* It appears your system failed to start Ubuntu properly. *
* Type 'helpme' to run the Ubuntu Recovery Application *

...directing the user to a program to help them out of the mess ;)

The program could do simple things like run apt-get update and
upgrade, offer to install and run lynx, that sort of thing.

What do you think?
