Please read

  http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/html_node/gettext_150.html

for full introduction. If that doesn't help, or seems to complicated,
here's a short intro.

Many languages use different forms of words when they are "attached"
to numbers. I.e. English has a simple singular (1) and plural
(anything but 1). Slavic languages tend to have more complicated
rules, and eg. Serbian has 3 forms: 1 for numbers ending with 1
(except 11), another for numbers ending with 2, 3, 4 but not 12, 13,
14, and third form for all the rest. Some other languages have no
different word forms at all (i.e. just 1).

All this can be expressed using mathematical formulae (well, to be
prices, C-language expression). If you need help deriving such a
formula, we'd be glad to help, but you'd need to at least tell us what
different word forms do you have in these cases.

Cheers,
Danilo
