[lubuntu-users] how to update 14.04 to 16.04 Lubuntu?

Dear Walter, Thanks for the reply. yes, I do want exactly
a 16.04 Lubuntu update. I goto Preferences> Software & Updates, and
I verify that "notify" me of a new LTS Ubuntu version" is checked.
[Maybe I have Lubuntu installed "on top of" a plain Ubuntu system
("trusty" - whichever version that is.] Then I goto
Preferences> Software Updater, and it automatically
starts checking the US repository for updates to my packages.
I eventually get offered Firefox, and the non-existent flash-installer
program. I DO NOT get offered "update to Lubuntu 6.04"!
You suggest I can use "do-release-upgrade" -- that
must be part of an apt-get command, right?
Can you tell me what the full command is I should type?
Thanks, gary knott, garyknott at gmail.com
PS, As long as I'm asking questions about Lubuntu,
Can anyone tell me how to get an icon on my LXDE desktop that
"points" to a binary excutable file I have (called mlab).
These icon are called "shortcuts" in LXDE (and in Windows)
They actually point to a little file xxx.desktop
in one of the Desktop directories - there is
one for each user, and seem to be others scattered around on the disk.
I tried to set-up such a file for my program mlab, copying from
the icon for emacs. But here is the catch:
I need my program to be run in a terminal window.
Thus, I have the "run in terminal" option set to 'yes', and I
specify where my executable is. But when I double-click ithe icon , I get
the
terminal window, but I DO NOT get my program run within it.
Any tips as to how to get this right? I can't find any documentation
that I can follow about LXDE *.desktop files - where they should
go, what protections they must have, who must own them,
and other gotchas. Any pointers to documentation would be appreciated.
.
