Phill and all:
I just wanted to comment on the above.
One of the big improvements of 14.04, is that the Software Updater
(menu...system tools...software updater) now works reliably on Lubuntu -
even on my slowest (450 megahertz) machine.
They have finally fixed that bug (that I despaired they would ever fix).
It is no longer necessary to resort to using a terminal session to
update your system.
