The Release Notes at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/ReleaseNotes/Lubuntu#Applications
only explicitly mention auto updates and the network app, but once one
realizes that a given problem is due to a non-starting app, and that its
startup location is /etc/xdg/autostart, then one can apply the
workaround the Notes point to and expect results. Hence your bug with
the screen locker.
But we've seen how painful it can be to string together the necessary
realizations, when finally the light dawns and angels sing.
