14.04 seems subject to bug 1046563 with update-manager/notifier

the release notes are as a part of the wiki system and point to the
launchpad bug tracker system. If you have a comment in a bug that will work
as a workaround until the devs have a full fix, please add it to the bug
fix on launchpad and then mention the comment on the release notes.
contrary to what may be thought, whilst bugs are being hunted down...
Having a work around is really useful.
