WOTL: Any thoughts for best desktop value these days?

Thanks for the thoughts, even the idea of "work station" as a type of
computer is new to me as an Apple guy . . . .  And, since I spend most of
my time on the Apple User sub-forum, so is the link to Hardware . . . looks
like I have some reading to do.
