steam and ubuntu 13.10

Hi

Anyone using steam on Lubuntu 13.10

Just fired up steam and it came up with an error that it was unable to
connect and goto steam powered for more info. I decided to type steam on
a terminal window to see what is sent to the console

any suggestions based on the above,   not sure if some of the errors are
due to loading up in a terminal window or point to other things.

I am using Lubuntu 13.10
