curl doesn't run, only partial update available in update manager...

Yup, I've read that, that's why I hesitated to do the partial upgrade.

But I went ahead and blindly did
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade -y
just now, and all is well, curl is working again.

(Not that it matters awfully, but I found that on a 128MB
machine, jockey-backend and update-notifier had to be killed
to keep the machine from swapping like crazy just sitting there.
I will now go find some more RAM.)
