IMHO this is a real bug for Lubuntu users.  We should make every effort to
achieving a fix or a work-around.

according to this post:

the weekly update job of apt-xapian-index eats up 300-450 Megs of RAM.

I found two workarounds thru google.
One is to open "update manager" and disable the updates, by clicking the
settings button.
The other is to run the update at low priority. (I doubt it even works)
