Richard,
I agree that it can be a problem in the US, but in our countries (at least
where I live) there are no such laws as tax refunds for donating money to
non profit organizations. I can mention our SFD event, for example, we
managed to get a few sponsor that didn't give a single cent, but instead
contributed with printing flyers, CDs, and other.
PS: I also think that Fedora and SuSE are doing a great job marketing their
distros.
