You mean the system will not allow me to set my locale to "Japan", but 
have English as an interface language?
That sounds rather greedy to me.
And it DID work before ...

You are right, of course. Sorry.
I was/am under the impression, however, that because in BOTH cases the 
computer complains about the "locale",
that this is maybe one and the same problem.
