Ahha!!! This may do the trick for you. I was dinking with my <ahem>
perfect pulse setup in pavucontrol and it quit! Kicking myself, for
sure. Couldn't figure out what went wrong and in a panic after bragging
about it. I had reset my audio preference to it's original value and
that is when it went ape, doing as you said it did, almost zero volume
etc. So, I erased ~/.pulse, rebooted and not it's running on the default
settings, as it found the stuff plugged in, set itself as it saw fit and
now works like a charm. You might try that. I hope that works for you.
But, it is certainly a bug. :) Ric
