openoffice.org - presentation problem

I hope I can provide enough of the correct info for somebody to be able
to help me. I run the 32 bit Lucid on two different but similar
computers. I use open office 3.2 on both (they both have "oracle"
written on the logo when any open office program is started). They were
installed by default when installing Kubuntu.
Both computers have an AMD 64 bit CPU. The one at home has the Athlone
64 bit 3500 CPU, 2 giga memory and the GEForce 6600 256MB OB graphics
card. The computer at work has the 64 bit 3500+ CPU with 1 giga memory
and the GEForce 5200 (not OB) 128 MB graphics card. Both graphics cards
use the NVidia 173.14.22 driver.
Now for the problem: On the computer at home (theoretically the
"stronger" computer) I am unable to see any slide show using
"presentation". I doesn't matter if the presentation was made in pps or
opt format. The minute I try to see it as a slide show, the screen
"freezes". The first slide comes up and "breaks up" on the screen and
nothing further can be done. The only way out of all this is to press
the escape button and the the program "releases" the computer for use.
On the computer at work (the "weaker" one) there is no problem.
In writing this thread, I tried out two other programs I use which have
a slide show option (digikam & showfoto). To my surprise , they have the
same problem - unable to show a slide show without "freezing". I don't
have a problem seeing a moving graphic program, whether it's youtube, a
DVD movie or whatever.
My conclusion is that it's a graphic configuration problem. Does this
sound right? Help in any direction will be appreciated.
Errol
