The 6600 card (I am using one right now) works with the latest #195 
driver from nVidia; the 5200 will not work with anything above the 
legacy #173 driver.

The real question here is: while you may have these drivers installed, 
do you have them active? That is, are the drivers actually being loaded 
or do you still have the default nv driver being loaded? For example, 
are you able to use compiz? If not then the 'proper' nVidia driver(s) 
are not being used. (Another way to find out is to run "glxgears" from 
the command line and if it doesn't run then the driver(s) are not 
installed.)
