HP scanner inaccurate

hi everyone, i wanted to scan some papers today, for the first time ever
using this scanner. it's an HP laserjet 1100MFPn, printer, scanner,
photocopier, with network port (unused, plugged in USB). i used it
mainly for printing, and today, wanted to try scanning...
i started xsane, and acquired a preview, placed a rectangle around where
i want to scan, and clicked scan, the scanned area was off from my
selection by about 3 centimenters....
i tried skanlite, same thing, skanlite thinks the scanner is bigger than
it really is, the result is completely off.
how can i fix this? calibrate the scanner somehow? i know i can do a
full scan then crop what's not needed very easily using gwenview, or
gimp... but that's not the point, my previous scanner always scanned
perfectly, using both programs...
thanks for any help
