This is my first post to the list although I have been lurking for some time. My set up is Windows Vista on hd0, Kubuntu Karmic ext4/grub2 and Debian stable on hd1. My experience after reinstalling Windows Vista may be useful to others.
I expected this to reinstate my boot options.
1. Boot into Kubuntu using supergrub disc
2. Konsole - update-grub
3. Remove supergrub disc and reboot.
This reinstated Debian but not Kubuntu.
From googling I discovered a bug in grub2 was responsible. What worked for me was
1. Boot into kubuntu with supergrub
2. Kpackagekit - completely remove all grub packages
3. Kpackagekit - Reinstall packages I had just removed
4. Konsole- update-grub
5. Remove supergrub and reboot
I am sure this is not the most elegant solution. Experts please comment.
