Yes - I'm sorry, that was a little too near to crossposting.  (Not 24 hours 
between them, and related questions.)

Following your advice, I have installed Amarok 2.2.1 from the Karmic 
backports.  All went well and I shall stress-test Amarok 2.2.1 this 
afternoon.
