KDE Console freezes arbitrarily under Karmic/AMD64 - GNOME unaffected

I have a similar -- but different -- problem.  I am running Kubuntu 
Jaunty and KDE 4.2.2.  From time to time, I am entering text and (on the 
screen) everything suddenly stops.  A few moments later, the text that I 
have been entering will appear, and things continue normally and 
properly.  This can happen any number of times, and at what seem to be 
entirely random intervals.  Sometimes (but not quite "always"!) 
rebooting is helpful.  Hmmmmm.
