Urgent help needed - desktop/ screen Kubuntu Karmic does not function at all!

Your first presumption is right: 1/3 black *cuts-off* all the 4
windows I have activated.
By the way: the problem did not show up immediately after the upgrade
from 9.04, now about one week ago. The first sessions at Kubuntu
Karmic went smoothly. Only today, this windows problem shows up.

Also at Jaunty I had sometimes complications like that. But simple
provisional acts like  'escape' or 'restart' were enough to solve
them.  But the complication I have now, paralyses everything: I can
simply not work now at the 9.10 partition of my PC.

A good question! It is 1/3 horizontal, from left to right. It is the
upper 1/3 of the sreen which shows up black, while 'hiding' or
'cutting-off'  everything behind it.

If it is a bug, I am perfectly happy to report it. (Where and how
exactly? Via Launchpad?) But could you suggest me some temporary fix
which at least would enable me to work again at the 9.10 partition?
