Unable to print in Karmic

Slightly OT:
Some HP printers refused to print what was in red on the screen when the red 
ink was missing, although the printer was set to print in *shades of grey*, 
but blue or yellow would appear as dark or light gray. 
This was on M$, but that is probably irrelevant, I belive it is a printer 
*feature*, and I'm positive it's not a *bug*	;O)
