I had trouble with kubuntu and network manager not with debian. And the problem from my point of view is that there are few systems working (or not) together like dbus, avahi the old ifconfig etc ... and the gui part.

oh, I should have missed it. The poster could have installed it again ... for me it's working after fixing the dbus part.
