Last time I worked with the HPLIP team, they were community people working 
closely with HP, not paid HP employees.

Their Linux page is top notch though, and they get my vote for the best and 
most accessible mainstream support, where other manufacturers bury their 
Linux page somewhere separate from all the "real Windows stuff" on their main 
sites.

Brother has one though.  I have no idea if it's community supported or not.  I 
just know their monochrome lasers are a good bet for Linux, and their 
equipment doesn't carry the high premium HP LaserJet price.

(My current printer is supported directly by my current CUPS in Gutsy out of 
the box, incidentally.  Though I used to have to grab the .ppd file off the 
CD by hand.)
