John, HP tends to be favored because HP maintains
their own linux printer drivers.  All the other major
printer manufacturers are relying on the community for
support.  Since HP maintains their own driver, it
stays current and therefore usable.  If you go with
any other brand, you should search sourceforge.net for
a driver before you buy. Thomas A. Rood
