KDE problem - Only desktop wallpaper visible

I had thought of going over the old files in the backed up .kde folder.
But decided to see if the problems comes back if I redo the compiz +
screenlets.  It has been running ok for the last 2 days.  But KDE
environment seems very unstable compared to 6.06/7.04.
