how do I uninstall Kubuntu and install something different?

It sounds like you were trying to upgrade from Edgy --> Feisty.
If that is so, could you post the exact errors you are getting? That way we 
might be able to help you.

Kubuntu is an Operating System, not a simple program that one can 'uninstall'. 
If you remove Kubuntu then your system will not boot. (I assume you don't 
have a second O/S on the drive).

If you want to remove Kubuntu then you must backup your private data (files, 
email things, etc) and then FORMAT (wipe) your hard drive and then start over 
again with some other O/S

Use it for what? To boot and then install Knoppix? Always as a live CD? Where 
are you going with all this?
