hi ron,

it depends what you use a computer for. Ill try to sum up the possible
advantages, i will not go over any software compatibility issues anymore,
just advantages:

01. If you don't do any of the things below, say you just use a computer
like a typewriter, then the operating system that is build for 64bit should
benifit from all the advantages below, and therefor should be able to run
faster. I will not go into the subjective question of whether this is
noticable. It will depend on the operations your OS needs to do at startup
and other bottlenecks. Probably the difference is minor to say the least.

02. Sofware that uses intense calculations and that is optimised for x64 (eg
the x64 versions of this software) should really run faster. The 64
processor contains 3 times more registers, which are dubble in size, it uses
fastcall conventions which means that parameters to functions (and a program
calls lots, i mean lotsssss of functions) are passed through registers
instead of memory, which is way faster (even programs that are not cpu
intense benefit from this). Basically software that could benefit from this
is anything from scientific, mathematic, 3d games, codecs, audio and video
encoders, 3d rendering software,...

03. Last but not least, If you are a low level developer, you have all
these lush and big registers available to you....;)
