2 question from a newbie

Adept:
Look in second row from the top (2nd big blue arrow). Click it. It shows 
a "Show:" section. There you can get what you need.
OR
K->Start->Add/Remove Programs
That's a lot easier to use, perhaps it will help.

Search ubuntu forums. This is a difficult question as there is no real 
standard solution.
