Cannot access Adpept or Command Line CORRECTION to original post

Hmmm.... 
1. Try:
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
and then setup the keyboard - you might have to run this from a console via 
ctrl-alt-f1 -- i.e. don't login at the graphic screen, switch to text 
directly.
2. If that still does not work, I am out of suggestions except my other one to 
test the keyboard on another machine.
