Where is the text gone when removing 'quiet splash' while booting Gutsy LiveCD?

When booting the LiveCD, pressing F6 and removing 'quiet splash', I am
expecting to see a lot
of text while booting, more or less the equivalent of dmesg command.

But the screen keep being black, until the mouse cursor come on (until
Xorg boot itself).

I believe Tribe-3 was/is doing this.
I am using a daily-build from about one or two week old of Kubuntu
Gutsy.

I don't fully remember if it has always done that.
I don't think so.

Someone use that enough to remember if this is a new behaviour, and if
so since when?
It sure does not help to debug boot problems.
