Which explains why I have zero memory of having had to configure
something to get this working for the previous versions... <grin>

I don't have a clue what... There is certainly no place where I tried to
assign those keybindings to anything else.

Yeah sure...
No joy there. The shortcut still didn't work...

Well if that was going to work I'd think it would have worked for the
temporary user I just created [ I think to test if it was a user config
issue?]
But I'll give it a try...
I shutdown the gui, used mc to move my ~/.kde elsewhere... reran startx.
No joy... The <ctrl>+<alt>+<+> <ctrl>+<alt>+<-> keybindings still didn't
work. So I shutdown kde and restored my ~/.kde to get back my global
shortcuts etc... back.
BTW Do you happen to know if gpg supposed to depend on the gui???
I know this is a bit off topic but for all I know it could be related...
I ask because since sending this was the last thing I was going to do
today before shutting down my pc. And since I was at runlevel 3
(having just exited mc after moving my .kde dir back to ~/) and neither
vim nor pine which I use to compose & send my mail require the gui,
I thought I'd save a few seconds and not wait for kde to fire back up.
However, I routinely use gpg to spellcheck & "sign" all my mail (message
body) from within my chosen editor via these lines snipped from my .vimrc
:map s :w^M:w! $spellfile^M:!aspell -c $spellfile^M
:map S :w^MG:r $spellfile^Mkd1G
:map <C-s> :!rm ${spellfile}.asc^M:!cat ${spellfile} $sig/gpglink >${spellfile}._-_^M:!gpg --output ${spellfile}.asc --clearsign ${spellfile}._-_^M
:map <C-g> :w^MG:r ${spellfile}.asc^Mkd1G
This has worked for a LONG time on many linux installations including
edgy. But I usually do this from within a kde konsole. This time I was at
a runlevel 3 console and what it did was lock up... !!! ???
