Okay. I am gonna test this with the hypothesis that something about the Qt-GTK 
style code is dodgy. Will see what I see.

If you use Inkscape again, please try to make a note of the performance over 
time. The first and biggest thing I notice is when I drag the canvas around 
(panning, using the middle mouse button) after a while that gets very slow 
and eventually I cannot drag the canvas more than a few pixels at a time.

But, only if it's easy to do!
