Why is my /etc/fstab being ignored.

Well the multiple entries for removable media may not be "allowed" but
they work. I've used my own NON-standard mountpoints for every
distribution I've ever put on my pc. I don't eliminate the mountpoints
the default fstab(s) used because I don't know if some software may
depend on them implicitly. I suppose that I could replace mine with
symlinks to the mountpoints the installer likes... If they stop working
I may bother...
But I'd still need 2 cd entries as my dvd-rom is NOT the same physical
device as my cd-rw...
As far as which ones are being automounted...
ALL of them!
Note that I haven't yet manually mounted anything since my last boot.
though /dev/hda6 & /dev/hdc5 are both mounted by my .bash_profile except
that mount complains they are already mounted...
Also when I booted, there was an error when whatever is mounting these
partitions tried to mount /dev/hdc3 (something about the file system
type) Probably because I just attempted (unsuccessfully) to install
"simply mepis" on it and the installer insisted on ext3... my fstab entry
says ext2 so maybe my fstab isn't being completely ignored...
Speaking of which: Please see my other list message posted 4-2-07
Subject: Warning: device /dev/hda1 is already handled by /etc/fstab

It might give a clue...
Otherwise NOTHING with an fstab entry saying noauto should be mounted.
