No sound on Feisty on ThinkPad

Once I began to have no sound where I used to have.
I tried with kmix quite all I could do.

But reading https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting I
have tried to use
alsamixer in a konsole (use arrows keys, and M to mute/unmute channels).
[alsamixer is in alsa-utils package]

That did fix my problem. Since then, I got the feeling kmix is missing
something alsamixer have.

that is there too.
