Why is my /etc/fstab being ignored.

I have several partitions that I manually mount as a user as needed.
{Not hard for an mc user when /etc/fstab allows user to mount. just
navigate top the mount point and type "mount <esc><enter><enter>"}
These include my other linux file systems, which I try to avoid having
all of which mounted at the same time. (it's much easier to have a clean
linux on the hard drive from which to fsck the other ext2 file systems
after a power interruption or other crash via a root script [fsckDO] than
to manually run fsck on each partition from a rescue cd)
I don't want them mounted at boot. that is why my /etc/fstab uses
"user,noauto" But now they all mount at boot... ARRRRGHGHGHGHa!!!!
How do I stop edgy from mounting everything it can find?????
