How do I stop (ivman?) from wasting time trying to (handle?) my
non-removable drive partitions???
_MY_ /etc/fstab uses "device" not LABEL, and certainly not UUID... This
is because I can immediately recognize which drive partition is which
when referenced by it's device file. LABELs don't always match current
partition use, and UUIDs are NOT visually recognizable, and not stable
for those partitions I prep for new files via mkfs.
Thus when I used "apt-get dist-upgrade" to move my p3 desktop from dapper
to edgy and discovered it had automatically converted both /etc/fstab, and
the root=device references in /boot/grub/menu.lst, to use UUID's I
immediately edited them to again use /dev/hdX.
Unfortunately it now takes noticeably longer to boot kubuntu. This
appears to be because of something trying to get ivman to handle my
NON-REMOVABLE drives. I say this because I use the following in my
menu.lst "root=/dev/hdc4 ro vga=normal" to insure I get to see all that
nice reassuring boot text scroll by. Thus I noticed it was taking so
long to scroll past the following that I actually had time to use gpm to
copy it to the clipboard.

There were a few more lines but I think I captured enough to illustrate
the problem... Any suggestions?
