The easiest way is imho to open synaptic search for the linux images and
deleste what not is needed.

Yes grub is automated updated. Works like charm. ;)

There is a possibilty to save the last choise you made in grub.
Grub will then highlight this entry again next time.
But i guess, this is not what you look for.
