Newbie's install questions -- first of all video

Dear friends:

Just installed Kubuntu 5.10. The install looks solid and stable and
smooth-running (so far). What surprised me right away is the fact that it
all looked like Debian. I did not see as single sign of Kubuntu or
Ubuntu in it. In Control Center, it just said Debian 5.10, Linux, 686.
No (K)Ubuntu logo anywhere. Is that correct?

My first problem is taking care of my video card. During install, I
chose Vesa, automatic recognition of my monitor and LCD (I have a Sony
LCD 17 inch monitor). I also have a Nvidia GeForce 2 card. Under
display, it said that my resolution is 800 X 600. How do bring up my
video to what it should be? Would very much appreciate your help.

I am downloading the second of the stable, sarge Debian disks (i.e. the
second of a good dozen) 3.1R2-2. I assume that is the correct disk to
download and use with Kubuntu 5.10, which has only one disk. Please confirm.

Looking forward to your kind help. And looking forward to enjoying
(K)Ubuntu.

Thank you so much.

Benjamin
