You'll need codecs for some formats (like wmv), but not for everything.
If you put a cd in your cd drive, you should be able to play it. AFAIK,
if you have kde, a cd player program gets launched automatically,
actually. So, if you're getting no sound whatsoever from any program,
that's not a codec issue.
But, if you get sound form some programs and just need to add codecs to
play wmv files and such, read this:
